CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice Chairperson have filed their candidacies for the post of chairman of the party.
Oli reached the General Convention site at Bhrikuti Mandap and filed his nomination this afternoon. Ram Bahadur Thapa proposed Oli as the candidate for the post of chairman and his candidacy was seconded by Bishnu Paduel.
Similarly, Ishwar Pokharel also filed his candidacy a while ago.
Talking to journalists after filing his candidacy, Pokharel said, he was running for the post of chairperson to steer the party as per the established party rules and procedures.
"It's a normal to have an internal struggle in the party. It enlivens organizational structure. The struggle used to take place even in the past, while it was operating underground," said Pokharel.
The candidacies are filed during the day and the list of candidates will be published later in the evening. The voting will be held on Tuesday.
