Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has held discussions with Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari on the existing economy situation in the country.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday.
According to Prime Minister's Press Coordinator Surya Kiran, the Finance Minister and the Governor briefed the PM on the present condition of national economy, problems encountered in the banking sector and issues requiring immediate reforms.
Taking stock of the recent problems and challenges in the banking sector, PM Prachanda emphasized the need to reduce banking interest rates and resolving liquidity crisis with necessary changes in the monetary policy as well as other initiatives.
The PM asked the finance minister and governor to find ways to minimize the impact on the people due to the challenges in the country's economy. The PM also directed to prevent disbursal of loans to the unproductive sector.
He was of the view that public awareness ought to be raised through effective dissemination of information regarding the status of national economy and challenges faced.
