Ruling coalition holding meeting at Baluwatar

To seal deal on chief ministers and governors of seven provinces

A meeting of the ruling seven-party alliance is taking place at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar this evening.

With the deadline to form the province level governments fast-approaching, the ruling party leaders are holding the meeting to strike a deal on the formation of the governments in the province level.

According to a leader privy to the meeting, the coalition leaders will seal a deal on the chef ministers, province governors, speakers, deputy speakers and ministers of all the seven provinces today itself.

Participating in the meeting are CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden and Janata Samajbadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav and Janamat Party Chairman CK Raut.

UML parliamentary party (PP) leader Hikmat Karki has appointed as the chief minister of Province 1 earlier in the day.

Karki was appointed as the chief minister of Province 1 with the backing of 60 lawmakers. In Province 1, UML has 40 lawmakers, Maoist Center 13, RPP 6 and JSP has one seat.

Similarly, Nepali Congress has 29 and CPN (Unified Socialist) has four seats in the province. Prime Minister Prachanda is making preparations to take the vote of confidence on January 10.
