The ruling seven-party coalition has reached a deal on the allotment of chief ministers and speakers in all seven provinces.
According to a leader privy to the meeting, the UML will get chief ministers of Gandaki and Lumbini. UML leader Hikmat Karki has already become Chief Minister of Province 1. He will lead the government for the first half of the five-year term and the Maoist Center will lead in the second half.
Similarly, the Maoist Center will get the chief minister of Karnali Province, according to the deal. The UML and Maoist Center will lead the government back-to-back in Bagmati and Sudurpashchim Province.
In Madhesh Province, the Janata Samajbadi Party and the Janamat Party will take it in turns to lead the government.
"The Maoist Center and the UML will lead the government back-to-back in Bagmai Province. I will become the Chief Minister in the province in the first half of the five-year term," said Shalikram Jamarkattel, the Maoist Center Bagmati Province parliamentary party (PP) leader.
Allotment of speakers and deputy speakers
The UML will take speakers in Madhesh and Karnali. Similarly, the Maoist Center will take speakers in Province 1, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. The RPP will take the post of speaker in Bagmati Province, according to the deal sealed on Sunday.
While the UML will appoint deputy speakers in Province 1 and Gandaki, the Maoist Center will appoint deputy speakers in Bagmati and Karnali and the RPP will get the post of deputy speaker in Lumbini.
Likewise, the Janamat Patry will appoint a deputy speaker in Madhesh, and Nagarik Unmukti Party will get the post of deputy speaker in Sudurpashchim, according to the agreement.
