As many as 24 persons were injured in a stampede that occurred at Dhankuta stadium this evening.
The stampede took place in a crowd of locals who rushed to attend a live concert of popular singer Pramod Kharel.
Eight among those injured have been rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for further treatment, the Emergency Unit of Dhankuta Hospital said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxmi Prasad Adhikari confirmed that 24 people have sustained injuries and 16 are undergoing treatment in Dhankuta itself.
According to police, the stampede occurred when a large number of audience rushed into the stadium with the capacity to only accommodate 3,000 audience.
Entire events of the Dhankuta Mahotsav have been canceled for today after the stampede, the organizer said.
