Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to pull out of the government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

A meeting of the RSP held at the central party office in Basundhara this afternoon took a decision to this effect.

“The decision was taken at the party meeting after the RSP was denied the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said an RSP leader privy to the meeting.

RSP leaders were divided on whether to pull out of or continue staying in the government. The meeting held on late Saturday night was postponed for today as it ended inconclusively.

RSP that participated in the government led by Prime Minister Dahal on December 26 has quit the government after 41 days.

However, it has said that it would not withdraw its support to the government.

Prime Minister Dahal on December 26 had appointed Lamichhane as the Deputy Prime Minister and the Home Minister.

Dol Prasad Aryal is the Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Shishir Khanal is the Minister for Education while Toshima Karki is the Minister of State for Health and Population in the cabinet from the RSP which was established on June 21, 2022.

Lamichhane resigned as the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on January 27 after the Supreme Court issued a verdict declaring him a non-citizen on the ground of not having a valid citizenship.
