The Kathmandu District Court on Monday sentenced Manoj Kumar Jaishi alias Manoj Pandey, accused of sexually abusing a minor, to seven years in jail in the human trafficking case.
Hearing the case filed by the victim, a single bench of Judge Deepak Dhakal today issued an order slapping Pandey with a seven-year jail term for his involvement in trafficking in people.
A case had been filed at the Kathmandu District Court against Pandey stating that he sexually abused a minor.
He was arrested after the victim made public her harrowing experiences through a video alleging that Pandey sexually abused her under the cover of beauty pageant. She was 16 then.
In the video, the victim shared how Pandey, who was the organizer of a beauty pageant called Miss Global International 2014, had allegedly drugged and raped her in a hotel room.
The victim also claimed that Pandey had photographs and videos of the incident and she was sexually abused by Pandey for the next six months.
The incident, which took place in 2071 BS, came to the fore in May 2022.
