Disgruntled transport workers have set a fire to two police vans at Balaju in Kathmandu on Monday.
Staging a demonstration with the demand to reduce the fine imposed against the law, they set a fire to the van used by Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju.
The police vans set ablaze by the agitating workers have been completely damaged.
The talks which were held earlier on Sunday were positive. Both sides agreed to address the demand within a week. However, the protest turned violent towards the afternoon. The transport workers protested by blocking the road in the bus park area, bringing traffic to a standstill.
The protesters picketed the police personnel and started pelting stones which left 20 police personnel injured and two police vans set ablaze. Similarly, the makeshift police post was demolished by the protesters.
They put forth 10-point demands, including the demand to remove the provision of Rs. 1,500 fine for violating traffic rules and Rs. 100,000 fine for failing the vehicle pollution test.
According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, deputy spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, 265 APF personnel were deployed from four battalions to control the agitating mob.
