The silence period for the presidential election will start at 12 midnight.
According to the spokesperson of Election Commission Shaligram Sharma Paudel, the campaign has been banned from 48 hours before the start of the presidential election on March 9.
During this period, any kind of discussions, interactions, meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, among others including election propaganda, are prohibited.
"In order to conduct the elections in a clean, free, fair, reliable, transparent and fear-free environment, it is mentioned in the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, that the period of prohibition of campaigning and publicity will be applied from 48 hours before the day of the polling until the polling station is closed on the day of the polling," the statement issued by the Commission said.
"According to the said provisions, the political parties, candidates, voters and related parties are informed that the period of prohibition of campaigning will continue for the presidential election from 12:00 midnight on March 7 until the polling station closes on March 9."
The Commission has asked not to solicit votes and spread propaganda by any means and has also asked not to use electronic means such as SMS, Facebook, Viber to solicit votes.
The Commission has urged all those concerned to follow/enable such conducts, as it is prohibited to make statements, issue press releases, publish and broadcast, and disseminate materials predicting wins/losses through the media, contrary to the code of conduct.
