Presidential poll: Voting over; 831 lawmakers cast votes

Vote count to begin from 4 pm; result to come out today itself

Voting for the presidential election is over. The Election Commission (EC) had set time for voting from 10 am to 3 pm today.

A total of 832 members of parliament (MPs) voted in the president elections. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) did not participate in it.

According to the Election Commission (EC), 313 out of 333 votes were cast under the Federal Parliament. According to the Commission, 18 votes were not cast. Similarly, A total of 518 votes were cast under the Province Assembly. The EC will announce the result after 4 pm today.

NC candidate Ram Chandra Poudel has appointed Ramesh Lekhak and UML candidate Subas Chandra Nembang has appointed Mahesh Bartaula as representatives for the counting of votes.

Federal MPs Chandra Bhandari and Barsha Man Pun are out of the country for treatment as they are ill.

UML's Lakshmi Koiri Mahato was included in the voter's list but did not attend the elections. MP Shahnaz Rahman died a few weeks ago.

RPP decided not to vote in the election. RPP’s 14 MPs of the Federal Parliament and 28 MPs of the Province Assembly remained neutral in the elections.

Similarly, NWPP’s one member of the House of Representatives and three members of the Province Assembly did not cast votes.

The Federal Parliament has 79 weighted votes, and the Province Assembly 48.
