A security situation has been beefed up at the residence of newly elected President Ram Chandra Poudel.

The security situation has been beefed up at the President’s residence in Boharatar since he is staying at his private residence for some days.

With the announcement of Poudel’s election as the President this evening by the Election Commission, a team of Nepali Army has reached the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor for his security.

Poudel is scheduled to take the oath of office on Monday. Chief Justice will administer the oath of office to President Poudel as per the provision laid down in the Constitution.

After a swearing-in ceremony, the President will be provided with security facilities before entering Shital Niwas.

Outgoing President Bidya Devi Bhandari will exit Shital Niwas on the same day Poudel is administered the oath of office.

A welcoming ceremony for the new president and the farewell program for the outgoing President will be held on Friday, sources have said.

Earlier, a security squad from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force had been deployed. With his election as the President, a security team of Nepali Army has also been deployed to his residence.

Article 144 of Interim Constitution of Nepal states that the President of Nepal is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Nepal Army.

Poudel is the third President of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.  First President of Nepal was Ram Baran Yadav from Nepali Congress.

Bidya Bhandari is the second President from CPN (UML). Bhandari has become the president for two terms. She is going to retire on March 12. Poudel will take charge as the President on the same day.
