Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show cause notice on the writ petition filed against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
Hearing the writ on Friday, a single bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada issued the show case notice requiring Prachanda to submit the response by himself or through legal practitioners within 15 days.
The petitioner in the writ had sought an interim order to arrest Prachanda immediately and initiate action against him. However, the SC did not deem it necessary to issue an interim order on the writ.
Meanwhile, the apex court has maintained the writ on a priority list in order to effectively deal with the case in line with the Rule 73 (1) of the Supreme Court Rules, 2074.
Conflict victims including Gyanendra Raj Aran and Chiranjibibas Giri had filed separate writ petitions against Prachanda over the insurgency era case.
The petitioners in the writs have demanded an action against Prachanda based on his statement. On January 15, 2020, Prachanda, at a program, had said that he would take the responsibility for 5,000 out of 17,000 people killed during the Maoist insurgency.
The writs have been filed in line with Prachanda’s statement.
