Newly elected President Ram Chandra Poudel has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki administered the oath to newly elected President Poudel in a special ceremony held on Monday at the President's Office, Sheetal Niwas. He was elected to the post of President on March 9 by defeating his rival Subas Nembang of CPN (UML).
As per the provision laid down in the Constitution of Nepal, the President must take the oath of office and secrecy from the Chief Justice before assuming his duties.
Outgoing President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Speaker of the National Assembly, former President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, former Prime Ministers among others were present at the ceremony.
Similarly, the ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, MPs, heads of constitutional bodies, employees of the government, heads of security agencies, representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal, leaders of various political parties, and media persons.
Outgoing President Bhandari, Vice President Pun, Prime Minister Dahal, former Prime Ministers and others congratulated President Poudel after taking the oath.
At the ceremony, President Poudel and Prime Minister Dahal bid farewell to outgoing President Bhandari.
The Nepali Army offered a 21-gun salute to Poudel on the occasion.
