Speaker Ghimire takes stock of Nepali migrant workers in Bahrain

Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire, who is currently in Bahrain, inquired about the condition of the Nepali migrant workers there.

Speaker Ghimire is in Bahrain to participate in the 146th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. He had left here on last Friday. 

On the occasion, he acquired information about Nepali migrant workers there from Nepali Ambassador to Bahrain, Tirtha Raj Wagle, the Embassy's officials among others.

The Nepali ambassador to Bahrain as well as the officials in the Embassy briefed Speaker Ghimire that Nepali migrant workers in Bahrain were working with minimum wages and were facing problems in issuance and renewable of visa, according to Tej Prakash Bhattarai, personal aide of the Speaker. 

The officials expressed their opinion to the Speaker that the government of Nepal should take the initiative to open the Embassy of Bahrain in Kathmandu, according to Bhattarai, who was also present in the meeting. Speaker had reached the Nepali diplomatic mission in Bahrain's capital, Manama today morning.

During the meeting, Speaker Ghimire shared the he had floated the matter such as salary hike for Nepali workers with his Bahranian counterpart.

The meeting was also attended by other members of the Nepali delegation led by the Speaker, including among others leaders Ramesh Lekhak, Hitraj Pandey and Indu Kadariya.
 
The nine-member delegation led by Speaker Ghimire is returning home on coming Thursday after wrapping up a six-day visit to the island country in the Middle East.
