The list of martyrs who lost their lives during the 10-year armed civil war has been published in the Nepal Gazette.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s Secretariat said that the list was published in the Gazette as per the decision of the Council of Ministers meeting.
The Council of Ministers meeting held on February 27 decided to recognize the national martyrs by publishing the list of martyrs from the people's war to the period of Comprehensive Peace Accord in the gazette.
After the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a letter to all 77 district administration offices and requested the records of the martyrs.
Based on the records obtained from 77 districts, the list of martyrs has been published in the gazette.
It includes the names of 8,371 people.
The martyrs of the people's war were not able to get the recognition of the national martyrs after the demand to get the recognition of the national martyrs was repeatedly raised.
Along with this, the citizens who lost their lives during the People's War by the state and the rebel side have been recognized as national martyrs.
The families of the national martyrs will get compensation and respect as per to the facilities they have received earlier from the state before being declared as a martyr.
