Five Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Nepal Police have been promoted to the Additional Inspector Generals of Police (AIGs).

A cabinet meeting on Monday promoted five DIGs as AIGs based on the recommendation of Ministry of Home Affairs.

DIGs Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali and Kiran Bajracharya have been promoted as AIGs.

A promotion recommendation committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs last Friday recommended five DIGs for promotion.

The current IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh and the remaining three AIGs -- Sahkul Bahadur Thapa, Uttam Raj Subedi and Divesh Lohani -- will retire on March 25.
