Nine senior police officers including Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Dhiraj Pratap Singh are retiring today.
Three AIGs, three DIGs and two SSPs are going to retire, including IGP Singh, who have completed 30 years of service.
IGP Singh, AIGs Sahakul Thapa, Uttam Raj Subedi, Divesh Lohani, DIGs Masaud Alam Khan, Nal Prasad Upadhyaya, Mohan Kumar Acharya, SSP Janak Pandey and Uma Shankar Panjiar, who joined the police service on March 24, 1993, are about to retire.
According to the Nepal Police headquarters, they are ready to say goodbye to them at 4 pm. However, as the meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled to be held at the same time, it may be delayed for some time.
As the future leadership will be decided today, Singh will leave after handing over the responsibility to him.
Singh was promoted to IGP on May 1, 2022. He led the police organization for 11 months.
Meanwhile, five AIGs are in the race for future leadership.
Basant Kunwar, Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali and Kiran Bajracharya, who were promoted to AIG only a few days ago, are in the fray for the coveted post.
The government will pick one of them as the IGP of Nepal Police today itself.
