The final hearing on the writ petition filed against rape-accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is scheduled for today (Monday).

A single bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Madhav Prasad Ghimimire is hearing the case against Lamichhane.

Earlier on Friday, a hearing was held on the petition filed by the complainant, seeking an interim relief.

A bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Prem Prasad Neupane issued an order ruling out the interim relief.

With the Supreme Court’s order to conclude the case through fast-track, the final hearing is being heard immediately. Besides, all the processes required for the hearing the case have also been completed.

District Court Kathmandu had ordered to keep Lamichhane in prison for further investigation. Reversing this order, the High Court ordered to release him on a bail of Rs 2 million.

However, the High Court Patan, in its order, put a ban on Lamichhane from going abroad and take permission from the district administration office while leaving the Kathmandu Valley.

After both the parties moved the Supreme Court, the apex court lifted the ban on Lamichhane from going abroad and ordered the District Court to sort out the case at the earliest.

With the SC verdict, Sandeep went to Dubai to play ICC Men’s Cricket League 2.

A minor girl had filed a rape case against Sandeep on September 6 at Kathmandu District Court accusing Lamichhane of raping her. Lamichhane was abroad to play Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at that time.

He was arrested on his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on October 6 (2022) one month after the case was filed against him.

He was released following the order of the High Court, Patan.
