American Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson has paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Wednesday.
Nepal-US bilateral relations and exchange of cooperation were discussed in the meeting, sources have said.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that the government is focused on completing the rest of the peace process in line with the provision of transitional justice, and that assistance is expected from the international community.
He also said that the related bill has been submitted to the Parliament for the creation of a law to complete the transitional justice.
Ambassador Thompson said that the US wants to see Nepal's peace process completed and will take initiatives to facilitate it in collaboration with its diplomatic partners.
Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that Ambassador Thompson was concerned about the political instability which may have impact on development. Shrestha assured that it won’t have impacts on the development Nepal is still in the process of institutionalizing the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
Ambassador Thompson said that the US will fully support Nepal in its efforts towards bolstering democracy.
Saying that the work of American aid organization 'Peace Corps' has been affected after the Covid-19, Ambassador Thompson requested DPM Shresth to facilitate visa for 'Peace Corps' workers. In response, DPM Shrestha said visa for ‘Peace Corps’ worker will be facilitated by in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador was also interested in the security of American investments, working organizations and their employees in Nepal. Shrestha assured him that there will be a complete security.
