Govt decides to allow free ascent to Mt. Jugal for 5 yrs

The government has decided to waive climbing permit fee to Mt. Jugal (Jugal Himal) for the next five years.

A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday took a decision to this effect, a minister said following the meeting.

A climbing permit was opened to Mt. Jugal, popularly known as “Mt. Virgin”, in 2074 BS.

Following the opening, a successful maiden ascent was made in the second week of April, 2019 for the 6,151-meter high Gyalzen peak in the Jugal Mountain Range located at Gumba in Jugal Rural Municipality-3.

There are a total of 11 peaks in the Jugal Mountain Range, including the Gyalzen peak.

Everest mountaineers Maya Gurung, Sharmila Thapa and Milan Lama had scaled Mt. Jugal during the period.

Among the 11 peaks identified so far in the mountain range, there are eight high peaks with a height of 6,256 meters to 6,966 meters.
