Smart Telecom's operating license has been automatically revoked.

According to the Property Management Regulations 2079, the government is going to manage it.

Achyutanand Mishra, Assistant Spokesperson of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority NTA, said that Smart Telecom will be operated through the Board of Directors formed by the Authority.

"According to the asset management regulations, the license has been revoked and the Authority has automatically come under pressure," he said, "The formation committee under the coordination of Gokarna Prasad Sitaula manages the assets of Smart Telecom."

Smart Telecom had applied to the Authority for renewal of the license.

NTA did not renew it saying that about 27 billion Rupees is yet to be paid for licenses and frequencies alone.

Smart Telecom's license expired on April 15. Before that, Smart had submitted an application to the Authority for renewal.

However, the Authority did not renew the fee after not paying more than 27 billion in addition to the fine.

Smart only applied for renewal. But about 27 billion and the fine was not paid, it was not renewed," Mishra said. "Now all the work is done by the management committee led by Sitaula."
