Heavyweights reach deal on PHC leadership

Three major parties have reached an agreement on the leadership of the parliamentary hearing committee (PHC).

The meeting of top leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) held at Baluwatar on Sunday, agreed on the leadership of the PHC.

Chief Whip of Nepali Congress, Ramesh Lekhak, who participated in the meeting, said that the three parties have struck a deal on the leadership of the PHC, without revealing the details about it.

He said that this meeting also reached the deal on the heads of the other parliamentary committees.

"A consensus has been reached between the three major parties on the leadership of the PHC and other committees," he told Nepalkhabar.

Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka and Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak participated in this meeting representing Nepali Congress.

Similrly, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, deputy parliamentary party leader Subas Nembang and Vice-Chairman Bishnu Paudel also participated in the meeting.

Prime Minister Prachanda and Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey took part in the meeting from the Maoist Center.

Earlier, Speaker Devraj Ghimire had asked the parties to finalize the leadership of the PHC within three days.
