Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that those involved in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees should not be spared.
He said this while addressing the 12th National Convention of the Democratic Thoughts Society, a common forum of professionals subscribing for democratic ideologies, held in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he demanded the immediate suspension of Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand, who was involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
Thapa said that the party should not be involved in the investigation and emphasized that all those found guilty should be punished at any cost.
Thapa mentioned that the case of fake Bhutanese refugees is a serious crime against the nation.
He said that a person holding any position will automatically be suspended after being accused unless he is found innocent.
He mentioned that although this was discussed in the party meeting, some leaders tried to avoid it saying that it was not a tradition of the party.
He said that wrong things should not be carried in the name of tradition.
"Now the leader of our party has been involved in the refugee issue. After the leader is implicated, everyone should trust the legal process in the place where there is rule of law", said Thapa, "If found guilty, they should be punished.”
