The Koshi Province government led by CPN (UML) leader Hikmat Karki has fallen into minority after CPN (Maoist Center) decided to withdraw its support to it.

A meeting the office-bearers of the party province committee of the Maoist Center held this morning took a decision to this effect.

The Maoist Center will officially pull out of the government once its parliamentary party endorses the decision, party committee secretary Ganesh Upreti told Nepalkhabar.

The Koshi Province government which was formed under the leadership of UPN (UML) leader Hikmat Karki on January 8, has two ministers from the Maoist Center.

Maoist Center’s Durga Prasad Chapagain is the minister for Physical Infrastructure Development while Jeevan Acharya is the Minister for Forest, Tourism and Environment. They had been appointed as ministers on January 20. They are tendering resignations from their posts today itself.

With the Maoist Center’s decision to pull out of the government, the Karki-led government has fallen into minority.

In the 93-member province assembly of Koshi Province, 47 members are necessary for a simple majority. Now there are only 46 members in the government, with 40 from UML six from RPP.

Maoist Center has decided to field parliamentary party leader Indra Bahadur Angbo as the chief minister for the next government of the province, sources have said.
