The Koshi Province government has formed a three-member panel to hold talks with the pro-identity groups who have been staging protests for the last two months.

The government on Wednesday formed a three-member negotiating team led by Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister Tilkumar Menyangbo in which Social Development Minister Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari and Agriculture Minister Bhakti Prasad Sitaula are members on the behalf of the province government.

On March 1, 2023, the meeting of the Provincial Assembly in Province 1 adopted Koshi as its official name

Stating that the name Koshi does not reflect the identity of Kirats and Limbus, and other pro-identity groups, they have been staging demonstrations against the name Koshi.

During this movement, Padam Limbu of Tehrathum lost his life in Biratnagar.

They are also staging Biratnagar-centered movements.
