Defending champions Machhindra Football Club have been limited to the runner-up of the Martyr’s Memorial A Division League.
Machhindra became the runner-up by defeating Himalayan Sherpa Club 3-1 in a match held at the Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar on Wednesday.
Machhindra took the lead 1-0 against Sherpa after Bimal Gharti Magar scored a goal in the 26th minute. Machhindra doubled the score after Afiz Olaba scored another goal in the 70th minute.
The team tripped the score by capitalizing on the penalty given by the referee to the team. Afeez Olawale scored the third goal capitalizing on the penalty given to Machhindra after a player of Sherpa committed a foul in the penalty area.
In the 90th minute, Sherpa’s piston Bhunyoli made a goal against Machhindra, taking the score to 3-1.
With this win, Machhindra have collected 42 points from 11 wins, nine draws and five losses out of 25 matches.
Similarly, Nepal Police Club have notched up 38 points from equal matches.
Even though Machhindra Club had to satisfy with the runner-up, they will be allowed to take part in the AFC Club championship.
In the match held on Tuesday, Church Boys United Club became the champions by playing a goalless draw with Three Star Club in their first ever participation.
