The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a show-cause order on the writ filed against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ for allegedly using child soldiers during the Maoist insurgency.
After hearing the pleading, a bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla issued a show-cause notice on the writ regarding the use of child soldiers and ordered the court to prioritize the case, according to the SC website.
The writ filed by Lenin Bista, who claims himself the child soldier of the People’s War, against Prachanda and Nepal Samajbadi Party chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, was registered on Friday.
With the decision of Justice Malla to give priority to this case, the Supreme Court will now decide on it as soon as possible.
Earlier, the Supreme Court administration had denied to register this case against Prime Minister Prachanda.
The case was scheduled for today (Tuesday) after a single bench of Justice Anand Mohan Bhattarai last Friday ordered to register the writ petition.
Former Maoist child soldier Bista had filed a writ saying that the use of child forces during the insurgency constitutes a crime against the international humanitarian law.
