The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has set a target of exporting 1,000 megawatts of electricity this year.

Nepal, which started exporting from the beginning of June, aims to export up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity this year.

Managing Director of NEA, Kulman Ghising informed that this time during the rainy season, 1000 megawatts of electricity will be exported to India on a daily basis.

So far, 442 megawatts have been approved for export and further approvals will be taken for export, Ghising added.

Organizing a press conference today, he informed that the government started exporting 400 to 500 megawatts of electricity on a daily basis since the demand is not high in Nepal during the day and night.

There will be no power cut in the country while exporting electricity to India, he said.

"The Nepali people and the industries are prioritized when it comes to supplying electricity and only the surplus power will be exported. There won’t be power cut anywhere for anyone,” Ghising stated.

He told the consumers not to mistake it for a power cut when, sometimes, there are no lights. "It is caused due to a problem with the system."

He said that the main problem is over-loading, as identified by the NEA. "The problems will gradually be solved in the coming days," he said.
