Deputy General Secretary of CPN (Maoist Center) Barshman Pun has said that Nepal should keep in mind the sensitivity of geo-political complexities while handling diplomatic relations.
Pun said that if diplomatic maturity and foresight are not exhibitied in the conduct of international relations, Nepal will have to face a more uncomfortable situation than it is now.
He laid emphasis that the ruling party and the opposition should have the same thoughts and opinion about diplomatic relations.
Pun further said that the nation should be given priority over partisan interests while conducting international relations. "We are facing geopolitical complexities", Pun said at the international relations committee meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Pun mentioned that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to answer about the 'First Lady' during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit to India.
During the Prime Minister's visit to India, opposition parties including the UML raised questions over the activism of his daughter Ganga Dahal, who is also his personal secretary, and her presence in some meetings.
Pun mentioned that there should be a clear policy on who is considered the first lady and who is not during the foreign visits of the head of state and the head of government.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should take the lead in this. In the past, late leader Girija Prasad Koirala to Ram Baran Yadav to outgoing President Bidya Devi Bhandari also took their daughters as the first lady on their foreign visits, Pun recalled.
"The head of government and the head of state without their wives have a long tradition of taking their daughter as the first", Pun said, "If there was a clear policy about whether this could be done or not, there would not have been any controversy during the visit of the prime minister."
On a different not, Pun, who was also the former energy minister, said that the long-term energy trade agreement was important during the Prime Minister's visit to India.
