Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song has said that the Pokhara International Airport has been built under the BRI project.
He said so while addressing a program organized in Pokhara after the first international commercial flight from China landed at the Pokhara International Airport on Wednesday.
Earlier, during the inauguration of Pokhara Airport, the charge de’affaires of the embassy also had said that this airport was under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project.
Ambassador Chen further said that the design and construction of the Pokhara International Airport was done with the help of the Chinese government.
Pokhara International Airport was brought into operation in January 2023. “It was designed and constructed with the help of the Chinese government," Chen said, "It was built by Chinese engineers. Finally we have successfully landed an international flight at the Pokhara International Airport today. This is under the BRI project.”
The construction of this airport started on August 1, 2016 following an agreement signed between the government and the Chinese state-owned contractor China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd.
The contract was signed with China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd for USD 244.04 million inclusive of value added tax (VAT).
To build Pokhara Airport, the government has taken a loan of 1 billion 378 million Chinese Yuan by signing an agreement with China's Exim Bank in 2072 BS.
