Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has vehemently stated that he is ready to face any punishment, but he will not back down from the decision not to allow Hindi films to be screened in the halls of the metropolis.
The High Court Patan on Thursday issued an interim order not to stop the screening of Indian films in a writ petition filed by a film distributor demanding that they be allowed to screen Hindi films.
In a writ filed by the Nepal Film Distributors Association, a single bench of Judge Dhir Bahadur Chand has issued a short-term interim order not to stop the screening of any film permitted by the Film Censor Board, including Indian films.
The court has summoned both the parties to the court on June 27 to discuss the interim order on this issue.
Mayor Shah has stated that he will not obey the court order nor will he allow Hindi films to be shown in the halls of the Kathmandu metropolis.
Reacting to the film writer's statement that Nepal was under the rule of India, Shah said that their intention was clear. Through social media he categorically stated that he is ready to face any punishment, but will not allow to run Hindi films.
“To allow screening of Indian films means that our government and courts are slaves of India,” alleged Shah, “When it comes to the sovereignty and independence of the country, I am ready to face any kind of punishment but won’t obey court order,” he categorically stated.
