Chinese billionaire Jack Ma to meet PM Prachanda

Chinese billionaire Jack Ma, who arrived in Nepal on Tuesday, will meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

According to Baluwatar sources, Jack Ma, who landed in Kathmandu by a special flight via Dhaka, Bangladesh, asked for time to meet Prime Minister Prachanda.

The Prime Minister is currently discussing with members of the Secretariat after Jack Ma requested time for a meeting.

 “Jack Ma's team has asked for time,” the Baluwatar source said, “We are consulting on this.”

Prime Minister's Press Adviser Govinda Acharya said that Jack Ma, who came to Nepal, would be welcomed if he invests according to the laws of Nepal.

Along with the Prime Minister, Jack Ma’s team is making  preparations to meet with Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

According to sources close to Jack Ma’s team, he has booked Royal Suite rooms at The Dwarika’s Hotel.

Earlier, he took lunch at Hotel Marriott in Naxal and went back to The Dwarika’s Hotel. It is learnt that Ma will go to Chitwan for a sightseeing and stay at Meghauli Resort. The founder of Alibaba, who is close to Nirvana Chaudhary, the operator of Meghauli Serai Resort and Managing Director of Chaudhary Group (CG), will stay at the resort.  However, there is no official information regarding his Chitwan visit.

 It is learnt that Jack Ma is scheduled to meet with the officials of the Chinese Ambassy in Nepal on Tuesday evening.

It is said that Ma will head for Pakistan after his Nepal visit.

Five years ago, Alibaba acquired the e-commerce company Daraz. Established as an e-commerce platform in 2012 in Pakistan, Daraz is popular in Nepal as well. 

Daraz is currently operating in the countries including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Nepal.

The China government tightened a grip on the various companies of Alibaba Group after Jack Ma publicly criticized the financial regulatory body of China. After the China government turned against Ma, he left for Thailand and Japan. He returned to China only three months ago.
