Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki is taking a vote of confidence today (Thursday).
After the CPN (Maoist) pulled out of the government, the Karki-led provincial government has fallen into minority. Chief Minister Karki will submit a motion for a vote of confidence in the province assembly today.
According to Province Assembly Secretary Gopal Prasad Parajuli, the Province Assembly meeting is being held at 1 pm.
Karki is in trouble after the 13-member Maoist Center quit the government. He has 40 votes of UML and sic votes of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
But 47 Member of Parliament (MPs) are required to secure the vote of confidence. There is no chance of him getting a vote of confidence as 1 MP is not in his favor.
In the Province Assembly, there are 29 MPs from Nepali Congress, 13 from the Maoist Center (including the Speaker), four MPs from CPN (Unified Socialist) and 1 MP from JSP.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday while participating in the meeting of the UML Parliamentary Party, Chief Minister Karki said that he will take the vote of confidence in the meeting of the Provincial Assembly on Thursday.
Karki claimed that someone from the party would be ready to give a vote of confidence.
However, none of the other parties have decided to give a vote of confidence so far.
The leaders of the coalition are seen united.
Political analysts are making speculations who will form the next government if he does not secure the vote of confidence or tenders resignation earlier.
