Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has decided to stay neutral as Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki is taking the vote of confidence in Koshi Province today.

The JSP parliamentary party meeting held earlier decided to remain neutral in the vote of confidence being taken by Chief Minister Karki.

Karki has also sent a letter to all the parties represented in the Koshi Province Assembly asking for a vote of confidence.

"We want to make it clear that JSP will not vote for or against anyone until a strong political base is built on renaming the province based on identity," reads the statement issued by JSP Province Chairman Deepak Yakkha.

Former Health Minister Nirmala Limbu is the only one lawmaker from JSP in Koshi Province.

She became a minister when the government was formed under Karki's leadership on January 9.

JSP has been demanding that the Koshi name be canceled and re-named based on identity. JSP withdrew its support to the government on May 31.

JSP, which is also part of the recently formed Samajbadi Front, has said that it will not participate in today's voting.

"In the current political scenario, JSP will not give a vote of confidence to the UML-led government," the press note said.
