With the call to form a new government in Koshi Province, the parties have intensified internal meetings to turn the tables in their favor.

Province Chief Parshuram Khapung on Sunday issued a deadline to the parties to lay claims for the formation of a new government by coming Thursday (5 pm).

The UML-led government in Koshi collapsed after Hikmat Kumar Karki, who became the chief minister on January 8, 2023, did not receive a vote of confidence.

With the call for the formation of the government by the province head, the competition between the major parties CPN (UML), Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist) Center among others has started in the Koshi Province.

But efforts are being made to reach a consensus on the formation of the government between the leaders of the ruling coalition rather than the UML. The negotiation between the Congress and Maoist Center is continuing on who will take the leadership of Koshi.

According to the sources, this will also be discussed in the meeting of the ruling alliance to be held at the Prime Minister's residence, Baluwatar, on Monday afternoon.

The leaders of Koshi Province have come to Kathmandu demanding to settle the dispute.

Uddhav Thapa, who is also the Province Parliamentary Party leader from the Congress, and Indra Bahadur Angbo from the Maoist Center are yet to be agreed on who will be sent to lead the government.

"We will put forward Uddhav Thapa as the Chief Minister if the Congress gets it," said the leader of the alliance to Nepalkhabar.

If a government is formed under Maoist Center leadership, Indra Angbo, the leader of the parliamentary party leader, is ready to be made the chief minister.

After the downfall of the UML government within six months, now the Congress and Maoist Center are planning to form the government with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

In the 93-member Koshi Province Assembly, 47 province assembly members are required for a majority. The government led by UML Standing Committee member Hikmat Karki fell down with the support of only 46 MPs.

The UML, the largest party in the province assembly, has 40 MPs. Earlier, RPP, which joined the government, has six MPs.

There are 29 MPs from the Congress, 13 from the Maoist Center (including the speaker), four from the CPN (Unified Socialist) and one from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).
