Rastriya Swatantra Party (RS), which established itself as a new alternative force in a short time in national politics, has been mired in internal conflicts.

RSP, which won 20 seats in the general elections within a few months of its establishment, witnessed factions and sub-factions in the party, of late.

Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and MP Dr Swarnim Wagle are engaged in a fresh power tussle, triggering conflicts among cadres in the district level as well.

The skirmish among the cadres in the party has shown two factions in the RSP in the Sainamaina municipal committee office of the party in Rupandeshi.

The incident took place last Wednesday night. But it became public on Saturday afternoon. As the district convention is set to be held in coming November, two factions are struggling hard to snatch the power in the district level.

One group took the stand that the party should follow the party statute. RSP's Sainamaina Rapid Action Team Coordinator Damodar Khatri complained that he was thrashed when he raised his voice to run the party according to the statute.

According to Khatri, clause 13 (e) of the party statute, has laid a provision that government school teachers should not hold any post.

But he claimed that District Coordinator Prakash Gyawali is a teacher of Child Development Basic School in Tilottama Municipality-17 in Rupandehi.

Khatri said that instead of running the new party according to the statute without factionalism, he had to face actions and beatings.

After the beating allegations, RSP district coordinator Gyawali insisted that Khatri is not in the party and is making unnecessary disputes and activities.

According to him, Khatri has already been removed from the responsibility of the party.

DSP Dan Bahadur Thapa, chief of Butwal, Area Police Office, said that some leaders of RSP lodged a complaint and said that the matter would be discussed today.
