The ruling Nepali Congress has decided to expedite its membership drive campaign at a time when new parties are emerging with tempting promises to attract people, of late.
In the CWC meeting which started at the central party office in Sanepa on Tuesday, General Secretary Gagan Thapa proposed to increase the membership as part of the statute implementation and consolidation of the party.
“The NC should launch a door-to-door campaign and make new members of the party,” Thapa said while floating a proposal in the CWC meeting today.
According to the proposal submitted by Thapa, the membership extension drive will start from August 5, 2023 and run until July 15, 2024.
Under this membership extension drive campaign, the Congress plans to add minimum 500,000 to 700,000 new members, Thapa has said.
Until the 14th General Convention held in December 2021, the number of active members was 866,000.
The party has planned to increase the active members to 1,400,000 from the previous numbers.
