Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has said the gold smuggling case is not a matter of surprise for the Nepali people.

Speaking at a parliament meeting on Wednesday, Chairman Lamichhane said Nepali people are accustomed to such cases of gold smuggling.

"Arrivals of quintals of gold and arrest of common individuals in connection with it is not a matter of surprise for Nepali people. They are accustomed to it. When such incidents take place, officials are transferred,” said Lamichhane.

He went on to say that the officials are transferred to other places instead of dismissing them from jobs. This practice should be stopped right away, said Lamichhane.

“Is the transfer a punishment? Are you punishing them or honoring them with rewards?” asked Lamichhane.

“When the officials are transferred, evidences will be lost or hidden. The accused involved in the crimes will get opportunity to format their mobiles while some will get opportunity to create media narratives in their favor,” said Lamichhane, “The transfer will not sufficient in such serious cases.”

He has stated that the gold is being smuggled into the country via the Tribhuvan International Airport in a grand setting for a long time.
