Speaker tendering resignation to form new govt in Koshi Province

The ruling alliance is making preparations to stake a claim for the formation of a new government through the resignation of Speaker Baburam Gautam.

The deadline to form a new government issued by Province Chief Parshuram Khapung is expiring at 5 pm today.

Prior to this, Speaker Gautam will resign from his post, Maoist Center Member of Parliament (MP) Durga Chapagain  told Nepalkhabar.

Once Gautam tenders resignation, the alliance will lay claim to the post of Chief Minister before Province Chief Parshuram Khapung.

Earlier, the alliance had elected Uddav Thapa with the signature of Speaker Baburam Gautam.

After the Supreme Court, hearing the writ petition by CPN (UML), annulled the signature of Speaker Gautam, Province Chief called for a new government in line with Article 168 (2).

The alliance preparing to field Thapa as Chief Minister this time, too.

Nepali Congress has 29 lawmakers, CPN (Maoist Center) 13 including the speaker, CPN (Unified Socialist) 4 and Janata Samajbadi Party 1.

Similarly, CPN (UML) has 40 and Rastriya Prajatantra Party has six MPs in Koshi Province.
