A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) is taking place today (Wednesday).
The meeting will take place at the hall of the PHC at 11 am.
The PHC will begin the process of hearing for the recommended ambassadors following the discussions with the Foreign Minister NP Saud, sources have said.
The Council of Ministers has recommended six individuals as ambassadors to various countries and permanent missions of Nepal in New York and Geneva.
According to cabinet sources, Joint Secretary Lok Bahadur Thapa has been recommended as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in New York. Thapa had previously served as Nepali Ambassador to Belgium.
Similarly, joint secretaries Tej Bahadur Chhetri has been appointed as Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE, Ghanashyam Lamsal to Kuwait, Dhan Bahadur Oli to Thailand, Sudhir Bhattarai to France and Ram Prasad Subedi to Geneva.
The PHC had on July 26 solicited complaints from the public, if any, against the six ambassadorial nominees.
Sources said Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal was also vying for the post of Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. He is miffed with the cabinet decision to deny him the position.
The ambassadors recommended by the Council of Ministers will be appointed by the President once they are endorsed by the PHC, in accordance with the provision of the Constitution.
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee is comprised of five members each from Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, two members from CPN-Maoist Center, and one member each from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).
Ramesh Lekhak, Ishwari Devi Neupane, Jeevan Pariyar, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, and Rameshjung Rayamazhi are members from NC, and Padam Giri, Mahesh Kumar Bertaula, Lilanath Shrestha, Ishwari GM, and Devendra Dahal from UML.
Similarly, Janardhan Sharma and Jagaprasad Sharma of the Maoist Center, Dolprasad Aryal of RSP, Pashupati Shumsher JBR of RPP, and Prakash Adhikari of JSp are also in the Committee.
