Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has suspected Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's involvement in the 100 kilos of gold smuggling case.
Addressing a program held in Kathmandu on Thursday, leader Koirala said that the investigation of the gold smuggling case by keeping out the Nepal Police and involving only the Department of Revenue Investigation has raised suspicions.
He said that making Prime Minister Dahal's confidant (Nawaraj Dhungana) the head of revenue investigation and not involving the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police in the investigation of gold smuggling has raised suspicions on the Prime Minister.
Koirala said that the media should find the reason why only the Department of Revenue Investigation was active without involving the police.
While the investigation of the gold smuggling case is going on, another case will emerge and the investigation of the gold will be overshadowed, Koirala claimed.
He said that the case of Bhutanese refugees and Lalita Niwas land scam have now been overshadowed after the gold case emerged.
Leader Koirala suspected the involvement of top leaders in the gold smuggling case and said that efforts are being made to cover up the incident.
Stating that lawlessness and impunity are increasing in the country, Koirala asserted that it is not good for the country to give political cover to those involved in unlawful killing.
“The country is mired in corruption. Impunity is on the rise. The Supreme Court, High Court, District Court convict people of murder but they are freed due to political cover. If we fail to keep things in order, the country will go anarchic”, he said.
The gold case will also subside. This also happens when someone at the top is involved, said he.
“As this case goes on, another case emerges, none of the cases will reach conclusion, because the people at the top are involved,” said Koirala, hinting out at Prime Minister Dahal.
What is interesting in the gold case is that CIB is not involved. Only revenue investigation is involved.
The Revenue Investigation was previously under the Ministry of Finance, when KP Sharma Oli was the Prime Minister. It has now been brought under the Prime Minister's Office.
“What is happening, where are we heading to?,” questioned Koirala.
