All the six ambassadorial nominees recommended by the Council of Ministers have been endorsed unanimously by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) on Thursday.

Lok Bahadur Thapa recommended for the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York, Ram Prasad Subedi to the United Nations in Geneva (Switzerland) and Nepali Ambassador to France Sudhir Bhattarai have been endorsed.

The remaining three ambassadorial nominees underwent the parliamentary hearing on Wednesday itself.

The hearing of the remaining three ambassadors -- Tej Bahadur Chhetri recommended as Nepali Ambassador to United Arab Emirates,  Ghanashyam Lamsal (Kuwait), and Dhan Bahadur Oli (Thailand) – was conducted today.

The proposed ambassadors during the hearing said they would play a constructive role of bolstering ties of the two countries if they were given the ambassadorial responsibilities.

Speaking at the meeting, proposed ambassador to UAE Chhetri said he would do his best to assist Nepali migrant workers in the country if he were appointed as the ambassador.

He further said that he would leave no stone unturned to improve the bilateral ties between the two countries and work for the interest of Nepal in coordination with the UAE government.

Similarly, ambassadorial nominee for Kuwait Ghanashyam Lamsal said he would work for the interest of Nepal taking into consideration independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and self-respect of Nepal if he were endorsed by the PHC.

Lamsal further said he would work for the rights and interest of Nepali citizens working in Kuwait.

In the parliamentary hearing held on Wednesday, proposed ambassadors -- Thapa, Subedi and Bhattarai -- presented their respective work-plans. PHC members were satisfied by the work-plans presented by them.

All the six ambassadors recommended by the Council of Ministers are carrier diplomats who have served for a long time in the foreign services.

Of them, Thapa, who faced the parliamentary hearing on Wednesday, is the former Ambassador to Belgium and European Union. Thapa is recommended as the Permanent Representative of Nepal to United Missions in New York.

Currently, Joint Secretary Thapa is the incumbent Division Chief of the North-East Asia under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that looks after China, Japan and South Korea.

Similarly, Joint Secretary Subedi, who is recommended for the United Nations in Geneva (Switzerland) is the incumbent Division Chief of South Asia under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that looks after India and Pakistan.

Similarly, Joint Secretary Bhattarai, who is recommended as Ambassador to France, is the incumbent Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to the hearing of the recommended ambassadors, the PHC held a meeting with Foreign Minister NP Saud.

The Committee summoned a meeting with Minister Saud after lawmakers questioned over the inclusiveness in the ambassadorial appointments.

Speaking at the meeting NP Saud had claimed that the appointments of ambassadors is inclusive based on the entire number of ambassadorial appointments even though the recommendation this time does not look so inclusive.
