Protest stalled as govt and cooperative victims sign 7-pt deal

The government and the victims of cooperative have signed a seven-point deal on Thursday, ending a protracted demonstration.

The seven-point deal was signed between Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary and the Federation of Cooperative Victims Struggle Committee today.

With the signing of the deal, the long-standing demonstration being staged for weeks by victims of cooperatives have come to an end.

The seven-point deal includes addressing the demands raised by protestors, eliminating irregularities and discrepancies subsisting in the cooperatives through reforms in line with the norms, values and principles of the cooperatives.

The government has also pledged to set up a Savings and Credit Protection Fund to immediately provide security for the return of the savings of the depositors of the cooperatives.

Victims of cooperatives had been staging a series of protests putting forth various demands at Maitighar in Kathmandu for a long time.
