Dipendra Gurung, a British businessman of Nepali origin, has become the new co-owner of the Miss World pageant, confirmed the pageantempress, a beauty pageant website.
“Gurung officially joins the legacy of Miss World from this year's 71st edition of Miss World", the website said in a statement.
Since its inception, Miss World has been monopolized by British businesswoman Julia Morley and her family.
Businessman Gurung is also the owner of Europe's airline company Himalaya Jet and Prive Luxury Cinemas, a world-famous film multiplex chain.
This year's Miss World pageant is planned to be held in Singapore, Japan and Poland. For this, Dipendra reached Singapore on Wednesday with the current beauty queen. Gurung also had a meeting with Singapore's Culture Minister Edwin Tong.
Stephen Morley, the current executive producer of Miss World, said, “The Gurung family is now connected with the legacy of Miss World. We want to take this event to a height with the 71st edition of Miss World.”
Dipendra mentioned that Miss World 2024 will be held in Nepal, but he did not mention the date.
