Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that the investigation into the 100 kilos of gold smuggling case will be completed by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
Minister Shrestha said this while answering the questions raised by MPs in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday regarding the gold smuggling and Lalita Niwas land case.
He also recalled that the committee formed during the tenure of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had concluded that 7,000 to 9,900 kilos of gold had been smuggled into the country.
This statement itself a clue that a lot of gold must have been smuggled into Nepal. Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) is being made a transit point for transnational gold smuggling, he said.
“We can't keep silent now saying that it happened yesterday, too", he said, "The smugglers must be brought to justice at any cost.”
He further mentioned that a parliamentary committee had been formed earlier, but not a single report was implemented. “The previous committee could not find even a single tola of gold out of 33 kg,’ he said.
‘If the CIB is not able to investigate it in the next 35 days, we can go for a high-level committee,” said Minister Shrestha, “Let's not derail it.”
