Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the identity in the country couldn’t be established because people did not give him enough votes.
He said this while addressing a program organized by the Federal Council Secretariat of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities on the occasion of the 29th International World’s Indigenous Peoples Day in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
"In 2070 BS, the party led by me contested elections with federalism with identity, identity with federalism", he said, "Then I also announced the names of Sherpa Province and Kirat Province. But it could not be implemented due to lack of sufficient votes in favor of identity in the House.”
He further said that it is difficult to get an identity from the ongoing movement. "If the identity is established through the current movement, it's fine", he said, "Otherwise, if you cast a lot of votes in the 2084 general elections, the identity will be established."
Saying that the controversial statement given by advocate Bhagwati Pandey has created a sensitive situation, he mentioned that the government is serious about it.
“I had a serious discussion with security officials along with Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha only on Tuesday about the uncomfortable situation that arose following Pandey's statement,” said Prime Minister Dahal.
