The government has fully lifted the restriction enforced on land plotting effective from Tuesday.

A cabinet meeting on Tuesday endorsed the land use regulation amended by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, said a minister.

“The revised land use regulation has been endorsed by a cabinet meeting. With the endorsement, the land plotting now can be done,” said the minister.

Even though the government decided to amend the land use regulation three months ago, it was yet to be implemented.

According to the provision laid down in the land use regulation, the land can be plotted in line with the classification of the land done by the local governments.

A cabinet meeting had introduced the land use regulations on May 23, 2022 after arable land was shrinking due to growing urbanization.

According to the regulations, land has been divided into 10 categories such as agricultural zone, residential zone, commercial zone, industrial zone, area of mines and minerals, forest zone, public use zone, area of cultural and archeological importance, and others being based on topographic features, efficiency and utility of land, its existing use and necessity

As per the Land Management Act 1964, the Ministry of Land Management on August, 10, 2017 had restricted plotting of land without permission from the concerned authorities.
