Koshi Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa is scheduled to take vote of confidence on Monday (August 21).
The notice registered at the Koshi Province Assembly Secretariat, states a vote of confidence will be taken in the meeting of the State Assembly on Sunday, (August 20).
However, Chief Minister Thapa informed that Deputy Speaker Srijana Danuwar, who is currently in the role of Speaker, has given Monday as the date for the vote of confidence.
Thapa was appointed as the Chief Minister on August 1.
According to the Secretariat, Thapa, who was appointed in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, wants to take a vote of confidence from the Koshi Province Assembly in accordance with Article 168 (4) of the Constitution.
A proposal regarding the vote of confidence has been submitted to the Province Assembly in line with Rule 128 (1, 2) of the Province Assembly Working Procedures Rules 2018.
There are 47 MPs from the ruling alliance in the Koshi Province assembly.
Baburam Gautam, who was the Speaker from the CPN (Maoist Center), has resigned as the Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, and now the post of Speaker is lying vacant in Koshi Province.
Out of 47 MPs in the ruling alliance, 29 are from Nepali Congress, 13 from Maoist Center, 6 from RPP, 4 from United Socialist Party and 1 from Janata Samajbadi Party in the Provincial Assembly.
As things stand, the government can get a vote of confidence provided the deputy speaker runs the province assembly in the Koshi Province Assembly.
However, it depends on the role of the UML. UML is making preparations to foil the coalition’s plan of taking the vote of confidence by making the Deputy Speaker step down.
UML has made a strategy to make its senior MP absent from parliament and making Deputy Speaker tender resignation.
