Spain won the FIFA Women's World Cup title for the first time by defeating European champions England.
This is the first time Spain and England met in the final of the World Cup. Previously, the United States had won this title four times, Germany twice, and Norway and Japan once each.
Spain won the World Cup by defeating England 1-0 in the final tournament held at the Sydney Stadium on Sunday.
In the second half of the match, England exhibited some improvements but could not score any goals. The goal scored by captain Olga Carmona in the 29th minute of the match became decisive for Spain's victory.
In the 69th minute of the game, Jennifer Hermoso’s penalty shot was easily saved by England's goalkeeper Mary Earps.
Spain had a penalty chance after being handled in the penalty area.
In the 49th minute of the game, Mariona Caldentey’s shot was saved by the English goalkeeper, who lost the chance to double the lead.
In first-half injury time, Salma Paralluelo's shot went wide of the first bar, missing a chance to double the lead.
In the 16th minute of the game, forward Lauren Hemp's shot was blocked and England lost the chance to take the lead. In 1 minute, Alba Redondo's shot did not hit the post.
With this, Spain emerged as the champions of the FIF Women's World Cup in the ninth edition of the football tournament.
