The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police has completed the investigation and submitted the file to the public prosecutor's office on Lalita Niwas land embezzlement case.
Based on the investigation report, the public prosecutor's office will now file a charge-sheet. The CIB has indicted 286 people on the charge of organized crimes and racketeering offences.
Some of them have been made defendants only for the purpose of returning the land. If they return the land, the case will not proceed.
CIB also recorded statements from then Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
Statements given by Madhav Nepal
Before I was appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal, the Prime Minister's official residence complex expansion master plan had been prepared.
After I assumed the post of Prime Minister, a proposal was submitted to the Council of Ministers from the relevant ministry regarding the above-mentioned master plan and that the proposal was passed, accordingly.
Based on the proposal submitted to the Council of Ministers to protect and beautify the prime minister's official residence and to bring the government lands outside the prime minister's residence within the premises, it has been approved to implement the master plan with good intentions.
As the master plan was prepared before my tenure, I did not have detailed information about it. For the implementation of the master plan, the proposal was submitted to the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal and the decision was taken by the cabinet.
Since the proposal was submitted to the Council of Ministers by the chief secretary of the relevant ministry, it was believed to have been submitted in accordance with the prevailing Nepali laws.
Decisions taken by the cabinet on the proposals have been made for the benefit of the Government of Nepal.
I had no personal interest ad concern in it.
